About IADVL Kerala
For the past four decades,Kerala branch of the Indian Association of Dermatologists,Venereologists and Leprologists has been functioning as the common forum for the qualified dermatologists,venereologists and leprologists in our lush and serene little state.Working in close association with IADVL all these years,it has substantially contributed to the activities of our mother organisation.
Holding regular CME programmes and meetings, which are accredited by the medical council, we have greatly helped our members and other beneficiaries update their knowledge and skills with the latest global professional standards.
We have also helped groom our new generation post graduates to be at par with the best in the profession worldwide. All our members are committed to cater quality service to all patients without swerving from the cherished ideals of medical ethics.
IADVL Kerala Branch
The “Southwestern branch of IADV” comprising of the Kerala State and South Canara District of Karnataka State was formed in January 1971 at the Annual General Body meeting of the parent body, namely IADV {All India} held at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. This was the first State Branch formed by a resolution passed by the All India General Body.
The Inauguration of the South-Western Branch was celebrated on 29th May 1971 at Medical College, Trivandrum in the presence of His Excellency V.Viswanathan who was the Governor of Kerala
Dr.T.Gopinathan was the Founder-President of the South-Western Branch, {Late} Dr.C.Gangadharan was the Vice President,{Late] Dr.B.K.H.Nair ,the Hon. Gen Secretary,Dr.P.Sugathan as Hon .Jt Secretary and Dr V. Krishnan Nair as Treasurer. In subsequent years the members belonging to the South Canara District of Karnataka joined their parent body, namely, Karnataka-Tamil Nadu[KT]Branch.
Thus, although it was in 1971 that Kerala State branch of IADV became a separate entity. even before 1971 , the Dermatologists and Venereologists of Kerala used to meet at regular intervals in various cities of the state for scientific sessions in an informal way, that is, not under the banner of IADV.
Dermatology clubs
We have local dermatology clubs and societies in different cities. These include Dermatology clubs or societies at Thiruvananthapuram,Kollam, Alappuzha, Kochi, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, East Zone dermatogical society (Kottayam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta), Malabar dermatology Club (Calicut) and Malapuram dermatology society members of these clubs meet every month and exchange information and recent developments in our speciality.
IADVL Kerala Publications
Since 1986 our branch had been publishing booklets as CME series. It as has been upgraded to a journal titled Kerala Journal of Dermatology Venereology and Leprology. In 2018 the existing Journal was given an international outlook, has been renamed Journal of Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (JSSTD).
